1. Philly Wine Week: March 19-26
Take 8 days to enjoy wines from all over the Pennsylvania area. This festival was created to highlight the local vineyards that we have here near Philadelphia, as well as educate people about wine. You probably would never have guessed that Pennsylvania is the 7th largest producer of wine in the USA! There are a number of excellent vineyards around us. The Amada, Bar Hygge, Bistro Romano, Fork Restaurant, and Tria Cafe Rittenhouse are some of the restaurants that are participating this year. To see the complete list of locations, click the link. You don’t really need an excuse to drink wine anyways!
2. XPN Music Film Festival: March 31-April 2
This is a film festival with a focus on celebrating musicians. You’ll find documentaries of how bands came to be and the lives of the members, as well as dramas about the love of music with a winning soundtrack. There will be sh
owings of the some of the most loved music films from the past 40 years. It’s a three day long affair that will take place at the Prince Theatre on Chestnut Street. There will be films about The Talking Heads, The Band, The Beatles, and then others like Almost Famous, and Singles. There will also be a special exclusive event on March 31st! It’s a dance party with throwback songs from the best of the 80s hosted by DJ Robert Drake at the Prince Theatre. Make sure to get your tickets now; they’re going to go quick!
3. Jazz Appreciation Month: April 2018
All month long, the entire city will be celebrating our history of Jazz. Philadelphia was highly influential in the jazz community back in the mid 1900s. Out of this city, we gave the world Billie Holiday, Sun Ra, John Coltrane, and Ethel Waters. There will be a number of free and paid events happening all over the city at different locations. Check the link to see where the jazz will be next to you.
4. Subaru Cherry Blossom Festival: April 1-9
Sakura Matsuri as it is said in Japan, or the annual Cherry Blossom Festival, will take place the first week of April. You know Spring is here when the trees bloom their delicate pink blossoms. Enjoy learning about Japanese culture with sushi making classes, origami classes, martial arts performances, and more. Most of the events during the festival are free, and are great for all ages. On the last day of the festival on Sakura Sunday, there will be special performances of tea rituals, fashion shows, and lots of delicious japanese food options.
5. Manayunk Restaurant Week: April 10-21
Kick off the Restaurant week a day early by attending the Manayunk StrEAT Food Festival on April 9th. Food trucks, local gourmet vendors, and specialty shops will be on display in the streets of Manayunk. Afterwards, follow it up with a time to eat and explore the many unique restaurants that litter Manayunk.
